“A pleasing personality helps you win friends and influence people. Add character to that formula and keep those friends and maintain that influence. – Zig Ziglar
One thing that we Africans excel in, by culture, is pleasing personality. We are socialized to bottle in much and be sensitive to the feelings of others. The risk is that if we do not develop self-discipline and a keen desire to achieve highly, we get conditioned into subservience.
So as you develop your character towards being more friendly and agreeable, watch and guard what is most valuable to you. Africa has become “invisible” to the rest of the world because we have been “too friendly” To be visible, be respectful, friendly, and understanding. But simultaneously ensure your self-respect. Apply the Golden rule: Do unto others as you would be done to. Give what you expect.
