The EasyDrain Care Unit – A revolutionary Solution For Healthcare

The EasyDrain care unit will go a long way in saving caregiving time, increasing safety of bedridden individuals, improving sleep quality, and ensuring better health of users by lowering the chances of bed sores that result from “burning” urine. And mitigating the falls of vulnerable individuals.

The EasyDrain care unit is a specialty bed and mattress created specifically to help incontinent users stay dry and comfortable in bed. The unit comes with a three-piece mattress. The Centre piece is designed with tubules, which ensure efficient flow of urine into an effective inbuilt drainage system under the bed.

This system ensures no contact between urine and the mattress. Consequently, this feature addresses the sensitive issue of infections and discomfort that arise from a bed user lying on a drenched surface for extended periods of time. This comes as a great alternative to diapers and catheters in the management of urinal incontinence – the lack of voluntary control of urination.

The EasyDrain unit (bed and mattress) is easy to manage as regards infection control. The Centre piece of the mattress, covered in silicon and the holes lined with silicon tubules, ensures integrity of the mattress. The tubule openings are suspended above the collection pan that is connected to the collection tank via a flexible tube. That suspension ensures that the tubules do not put pressure on the user. The whole system is easily disassembled for easy cleaning and disinfection. The silicon surface, the tube, the pan, and the collection tank are all easy to pull apart and perfectly replaceable.

The EasyDrain unit is designed to hold up to 750 lbs or 340 kgs. The collection tank holds about a gallon or nearly 4 litres. The tank’s relatively small holding capacity is deliberate to ensure safety and high standards of sanitation because it will prompt caregivers to empty it often and clean it with soap or any other disinfectant.

The use of our EasyDrain unit is varied. It can be used in hospitals, homecare, nursing homes and hospice care as well as regular family homes – we have a home edition. Whether you have an elderly loved one or and individual immobilized by accident or disease, our EasyDrain unit will be available for them at a place of your choosing.

The History

The EasyDrain care unit story dates to 2008 when the seeds of this thought were sown in my mind. I was working as a wound care nurse for a Home Health Agency. My work entailed going into people’s homes, dressing their wounds and changing them.

Out of this vocation, one case stood out. I was taking care of an elderly couple. The husband was ambulatory, but the wife was bedridden. However, the man was too frail to help provide care for his wife.

There was a pattern. Every day I went to attend to this client, I noticed she was in the same diapers I had put on her the previous day. She was always drenched because she was a heavy wetter. This continuous drenching made her wounds get worse every day. She appeared to be in a lot of discomfort.

To help manage the distress of this individual, the agency provided maximum hours of service, but that was not enough. Due to this inadequacy, I started thinking that there is a better way, and there must be a better way.

Having developed the thought to find a better way to assuage the suffering of users who found themselves in this kind of situation, we reached out to several agencies which could have effective solutions to no avail.

With that path of finding better solutions reaching a dead end, I reached the conclusion that if a solution was going to exist, then I was going to have to create it. My first step was to get a mattress, make holes in it and place plastic covering on the mattress to make liquids flow through. I did most of the experimenting in my garage for a while. Then I shelved the idea for a few years.

Later, in the year 2016, I ran into a similar but more intense situation. This triggered new thoughts about my project. Later, I started involving a team of allies – just close friends with whom I share personal development lessons. We moved to get an engineering firm to design and engineer it. This involved patenting in 145 countries as well.

As a result, we now have a patent pending EasyDrain unit, which by all intents and purposes, has far reaching impact on many lives in the healthcare industry.

On the incontinence realm, we go beyond urinary incontinence and beyond bed products. We have a portable cushion for managing incontinence in adults as well as bladder and bowel movements in infants and toddlers during travel. This comes in handy for long distance truckers and any person who might be stuck in traffic or unsafe place with no restroom facilities.
