At the official WRC Safari Rally flag-off, Cabinet Secretary for youth affairs sports and Arts, Ababu Namwamba, assured Kenyans that there will be lots of fun in Naivasha, the holding place for the Safari Rally.
The Safari Rally fanatics in Kenya had raised concerns on various social media posts about the state of this year’s after-party since no news had been forthcoming.
Dubbed Hustla Village, the official party for WRC Safari Rally will be held at Bufalo Mall with an exhibition area where innovative youth enterprises will get a chance to display their startups.
The three-day festival will feature a mix of established and upcoming artists in an effort to promote new talents.
” Sherehe is part of rally culture; therefore, we have made plans to ensure that wananchi enjoy to the maximum in Vasha. We are calling it spoti, bizz and sherehe, where we’re providing an opportunity for the exhibition of our youth enterprises.” Ababu Namwamba said.
With the world’s attention focused on Kenya as the competition takes off, Kenyan youth are staking their claim on the WRC Safari Rally.
Speaking to the media during the flag-off, the founders of the Youth enterprise called upon stakeholders to stop sidelining them when growth opportunities arise.
“Last year, we funded ourselves and provided coverage for WRC Rally, but this year through Talanta Hela, we have gotten an opportunity to make money. As young people, we don’t want handouts; we want an opportunity to earn an honest living,” said Eugine Patrick, Founder of Live Wire Mashariki, adding that it has been extremely frustrating for them to get help from stakeholders, but at least now there’s hope.
The Safari Rally was first held in 1953 as the East African Coronation Safari in Kenya, Uganda and Tanganyika as a celebration of the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II.
Run for the third time in its modern format, Safari Rally Kenya covers 356.98km across 19 grueling stages in the picturesque Great Rift Valley. Much of the route for this 70th edition remains similar to last year, with a series of minor tweaks included to keep the crews on their toes.
