Shalom looked at her 2021 resolutions. She was trying to evaluate the goals she managed to achieve and those that were left pending.
From the look on her face, she seemed sad at the realization that less was achieved from the set goals. A little perturbed, she wondered; if she couldn’t achieve her 2021 resolutions, what was the possibility of her achieving the new goals she would set for the year 2022?
As we begin the new year, many are in Shalom’s shoe. Many if not all have evaluated the year that has gone by and are filled with mixed emotions.
There are those who have expressions of joy, while others are filled with disappointment and anxiety as they evaluate their year’s journey. Anxiety and fear is seen in people who could not achieve a good number of their plans for the past year, while they ponder on better ways to fulfill the new year’s plans.
In this article, I will be sharing practical new year resolutions tips that will help you set achievable and realistic goals that will guarantee an accomplishment at the end of 2022. That when looked back on, you will be excited and proud of how far you’ve grown to the extent of achieving the set goals for the year.
1. The key to setting achievable new year resolutions is determining the right values.
You need to understand the reason why you are setting the goals and determine values to abide by for accomplishment.
Truthfully answer these simple questions:
Are you setting a new year resolutions because everyone is doing it?
Or do you really want it to guide you towards growth in the year?
Setting it for the right reasons helps you set the right goals and values.
2. Be purposeful in setting your goals:
Let every resolution be guided by purpose. Here is a practical example;
°Purpose: Strengthen family relationship.
°°Resolution: Put a call across to family once a week.
°Purpose: Living fit and healthy
°°Resolution: Run at least twice a week and visit the gym once in two weeks.
When you make resolutions like this, you are reminded of the purpose and this renew your drive to carry out the activities.
3. Make plans and strategize well:
Nothing works well without a plan. You therefore must make a well detailed plan to achieve the resolution you have set out.
4. Track your progress and reward yourself:
One of the greatest pressures in life is the pressure of change. The need for change and the process of going through change can be overwhelming. This is why it is important to track your progress. While ensuring this, you are giving yourself opportunity to grow at your own pace.
Tracking your progress also helps you know that change is not immediate and it is a process.
5. Be determined to stay consistent on it:
365 days is a long time and in that period, values and interests may change so it is important when setting your resolutions to build up determination to be consistent and stay on it all year long.
Most times, the difference between success and failure is simply setting the right goal and the process you use to go about achieving it.
Building the right resolutions and following through on them, is a way to secure the new year. So set those resolutions and win the new year. I am rooting for you.
A Quick Side Note:
Remember to be kind and flexible with yourself and to celebrate any and all progress along the way, no matter how little or minimal they may appear. It is not just the end goal that matters, rather it is the journey along the way.
