Proven Ways to Disassociate from Negative Energy
By Oreoluwa Eminence Ojo

Have you ever felt stuck in a pool of negativity, and it seems like there is no positive information or news around you? This energy is always from the people that surround you and the environment you are in.
While it is easier to combat negative energy when it comes from places you can avoid, it is much harder to avoid these energies when the people spreading the toxic energy live with you.
It is pretty easy to move away from toxic energy from people you are not so close with, like acquaintances or colleagues. It is quite different when the source of toxic energy is someone you look up to, a coach, or even your best friend, especially when you share a house. And you feel hopeless, like you are stuck with the energy.
In times like this, it is important to know that you are not a tree and are never stuck in a place. Knowing this would help you move from negative energy when it seems like you have no choice but to stay in a toxic environment.
Negative people can be likened to a bad apple that can spoil a whole basket of good apples. Allowing negative people to influence you can affect your work, power, and productivity.

Here are four proven ways to maintain your power and move away from negative energy in your life.

Limit the time you give negative people:

The first step to combating negative energy around is to guide your mind from them. Limit the time you give to negative people and the attention you give to negative things.
Negativity can take your time even if you are not with them. You can spend hours worrying about the time you have to spend with that friend who speaks negatively about things and still spend an extra couple of hours trying to fill your mind with positive thinking after spending time with them. The best way to get out of this is by working on limiting the time you spend with them.

Developing a positive attitude:

It is important to develop a conscious effort to have the right attitude. Choose to be positive regardless of the attitude the people around you carry. Never give anybody the power to dictate your mood or how you will react to things.
The fastest way to spoil a good mood is by spending time with negative people. Choose to be positive. Affirm positivity and create a mantra that speaks positivity. Remind yourself of this regardless of what others say. Develop a positive attitude.

Set boundaries:

It is important to set boundaries when dealing with negative people. Know you don’t have to listen to everything they say. It’s okay to take charge of the conversation when they speak about things you are uncomfortable with. You should set boundaries in your discussions, and you can also turn around a negative discussion into a positive one.

Surround yourself with Positive People:

While it may be difficult to look on the bright side when things are bad or you are surrounded by negativity, it is imperative to surround yourself with like-minded positive people who would always boost your positivity and brighten your spirit.
Identify positive people in your life, spend time with them, probably a lunch or just grab a cup of coffee, laugh, and get back your positive energy.

Negative energy might overwhelm you at a certain point in life. It would help if you decided to hold your ground and fill yourself with positive energy. Think about positive memories, take a break, go on vacation, take a walk or do anything to ensure that you stay on track, remain positive, and live with a positive mindset.
