Positive Thinking is the Window to a Positive Life
By Oreoluwa Eminence Ojo

As a man thinketh so is he. This saying felt so cliche until I understood the power of positive thinking, your thoughts determine your world. Once in my younger years, a challenging task was allocated to me. I spent a whole day convincing my parents that I couldn’t do it, and true to my beliefs, I failed at the task.

My younger sister then attempted to do it and succeeded. I cried to my parents, and for the first time, we talked. My parents emphasized the power of thought and embracing positive thinking.

Negative thinking is a virus that eats deep into your strength. This belief affects your mental attitude, limiting your mental attitude and hindering you from identifying barriers standing in the way of your dreams. A negative thought process instills fear and defines your ambition; this is what affected me and led to me failing the task.

I can attest that my mindset changed after the talk with my parents. I was able to attempt the task a second time and succeed. There was a grave difference between the first time I carried out the task and the second time; the difference was my mindset and positive thinking.

What is the power of positive thinking?

Positive thinking produces a positive mindset

A positive attitude means believing in positive expectations and the courage to take on new tasks propelling you to success. A person with a positive mindset; sets goals, thinks about how to achieve them and follows them through.

Positive thinking enables you to see opportunity

A person who thinks positive is not afraid to counter challenges and discover opportunities.

Positive thinking relieves stress

Negative thinking is one of the most significant contributions to stress. When you are positive, life becomes more endurable.

The question in positive thinking is not whether the cup is half empty or half full. It is a question of how I make the most out of the water in the cup. A person with a negative mindset believes that the water left in the cup is not worth anything to them. They describe the water in the cup as half empty, but positive thinking allows an individual to see potential in the water left in the cup and translate that as half full.
