The first day of October remains a very special day for every Nigerian citizen. This day is special because it marks the country’s freedom from the colonials.
As Nigeria celebrates her 62nd year of independence, Nigerians worldwide have mixed feelings about this day. The questions many Nigerian youth are asking include ‘what are we celebrating?’, ‘Is there anything worth celebrating?’ ‘Do we have any achievement to showcase our growth and progress in the last 62 years?’ these and many more related questions.
While these questions burn in many Nigerian’s hearts, many people feel there is nothing to celebrate. This article is aimed at showing why a lot in Nigeria is worth celebrating; it offers an answer to the many questions asked;
What are we celebrating?
Today, we celebrate all Nigerians across the globe. We celebrate the privilege of having a name we can be proud of. We celebrate good people and a great nation. We celebrate the strength of the great nation Nigeria.
We celebrate the Nigerian youth for creating a path of strength and purpose amid crisis and remaining undefeated. We celebrate the great men and global citizens that have come from this great country. We celebrate life, hope, and faith. We celebrate the future because it is bright and beautiful.
What next?
We are deliberate about celebrating Nigeria, and we are also very conscious of the future. We are intentional about what the future holds for us as a nation and a people.
We have had a good run as a nation in the last 62 years, and we can only hope for better years ahead. This brings about what is next for Nigeria and her next step for growth and development.
What’s next is to pick up your green-colored glasses and see Nigeria through them. It’s time to know that though tribes and cultures differ, we are not divided by our differences but stronger through them.
It’s time to realize that though a tree doesn’t make a forest, all it takes to start a forest is a tree, so you are valuable, and your contribution matters.
It is time to think about how you can improve our dear nation in your way. This is the time to forge a new era and bring a revolution, a national rebirth—the time to change the system by electing good leaders.
We need to invest in the health and development of people to build strong leaders. Now is the time to stand tall and strong, obey the law, and maintain order in your neighborhood. We need to build on transparency and truthfulness as foundations.
This is the time for Nigeria to stand together to wake the Giant of Africa to take his place at the top and show the entire world the great people of the great nation Nigeria. This is the time to stand tall and sing our anthem to the world.
Arise O Compatriots, Nigeria calls obey
We answer this call, and we wish Nigeria a happy independence day.
