A new poll by Trends and Insights for Africa (TIFA) has shown that more than half of the Kenyan population believes President William Ruto’s administration is leading the country in the wrong direction.
According to the study released today by Maggie Ireri, CEO TIFA, most of those who think President Ruto’s administration is leading the country in the wrong direction cited the unbearable cost of living, resulting in nationwide demonstrations by opposition.
“25 per cent of Kenyans believe that the country is headed in the right direction, but there is little agreement on their reasons, a small percentage citing the leadership of Ruto’s government as the reason for their positive feedback,” Ireri said.
In the report, the top achievements of the Kenya Kwanza government include launching the hustler fund, debt repayment, taxation policies, lowering fertilizer costs, completing and launching infrastructure projects, and financial support for the needy, among others.
The launch of the Hustler Fund received the most mentions reaching a double-digit of 10 per cent – no other achievement rating reached a double-digit.
“Kenyans are of the view that Kenya Kwanza’s achievements have declined between March and June,” the CEO said.
Conversely, according to the study, Kenya Kwanza’s top failures are the unbearable economic situation and failure to fulfil the promises made to Kenyans during the campaigns.
“Irrespective of their political affiliations, the vast majority of Kenyans who perceive the country’s current direction as incorrect are in unanimous agreement about their reasoning, which is the skyrocketing high cost of living,” said Ireri.
Thirty-four per cent of the respondents ranked Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki as the best performing, seconded by Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu with a ranking of seven per cent.
Health CS Susan Nakhumicha Wafula and Youth Affairs, Sports and Arts CS Ababu Namwamba came in third and fourth, respectively.
