Interesting Wildlife Destinations to Visit in Kenya

Kenya is one of the world’s most beautiful and impressive wildlife destinations and is home to most of the diverse wildlife in the world. It is also rich in cultural diversity. If you are interested in seeing animals in their natural habitat, check out our list of the best places to see wildlife in Kenya below.

Interesting Parks and reserves to visit in Kenya. 

Amboseli National Park

Amboseli National Park, formerly identified as Amboseli National Reserve, is located in Kajiado county, Kajiado South constituency. It is one of the most famous parks in Kenya and is a name of Maasai origin which means salty dust. It is famous for its large herd of elephants. Nature lovers can explore five different habitats here, ranging from the dried-up bed of Lake Amboseli, wetlands with Sulphur springs, the savannah and woodlands. They can also visit the local Maasai community who live around the park and experience their authentic culture.

Maasai Mara National Reserve

The reserve is located in the southwest region of Kenya, Narok County, along the Tanzanian border. It is famously known for its exceptional large populations of lions, elephants, the African leopard and cheetah. There is the unique culture of the Mara people that attracts people too.

Lake Nakuru National Park

As the name suggests, Lake Nakuru National Park is located in Nakuru County, on the floors of the Great Rift Valley. It is famous for its vast flocks of pink flamingos and hundreds of bird species. The Park offers game drives and camping facilities. It has a large population of black and white rhinos, lions, and cheetahs, among other animals. Makalia falls is a beautiful site located in the Park.

Lake Naivasha National Park

Lake Naivasha National Park, also known as “Sheer Adventure”, is located in the rising part of the Great Rift Valley floor. Lake Naivasha owes its name to the sudden storms that occur here. Nai’posha (in the local Maasai language) means rough water. Lake Naivasha is awesomely beautiful and a boat trip on the lake is highly recommended. You will most likely spot hippos, herons, pelicans, flamingos, and dozens of other birds. 

Tsavo National Park

This is among the largest and oldest parks in Kenya. It is located in the coastal region. The Park is divided into Tsavo East which has a large population of elephant herds, and Tsavo West which is rich in natural springs and a large population of hippos and crocodiles. It has a diversity of wildlife, volcanic hills, waterfalls and the savannah.
