Have you ever sat up in the middle of the night stuck on how to write a cover letter that will leave a powerful positive impression on employers?  I say this because I know the importance of having a solid cover letter, a cover letter that highlights your passions, skills, and experience to your employer. You need a cover letter that can win you that job you are applying for.

Cover letters are not very easy to write. I say this as someone who has written a fair share of cover letters. Cover letters are essential this is because a cover letter allows you to defend your skills and experience for the job you are applying for. It is also an opportunity for you to inform the reviewer that you are the best addition to the team.

Here is How to Write a Powerful Cover Letter that Will Guarantee You the Job You Are Pursuing

Have a solid header

Your cover letter header should stand out and have the following contact information.

  • Your name
  • Your phone number
  • Your email address
  • The date
  • The name of the hiring manager and their professional title
  • The name and address of the company to which you’re applying

Address the hiring manager by their name and their professional title

After the header, a standard cover letter salutation should follow. Ensure you address the cover letter to the company-hiring manager and address the manager by name if possible. If the hiring manager’s name is not included in the job ad, you can find it out by doing this.

  • Exploring the company website
  • Check the company’s LinkedIn page
  • Contact their HR department to find out.

Write an attention-grabbing powerful opening paragraph

Begin your cover letter with a direct introduction that includes the organization and the position you’re applying for, how you found the job, and why you’re excited about the job. You can also add some of your passion and professional experience. You should add referrals in this paragraph.

State your qualities and why you are qualified for the job

Use the second and third paragraphs to show employers that you are qualified for the job. Use the two paragraphs to sell yourself by discussing the relevant skills you possess, work experience and work achievement. You can also highlight your values and include professional awards, achievements and expertise. You can also add your academic qualification

Relate how your skills help the company’s needs

Close your cover letter by restating your interest in the organization and the position. Explain how your experiences and skills fit into the company’s needs. Ensure you add all relevant experience into this paragraph. Explain your passion and enthusiasm for the job. Ensure you sound convincing and let the hiring manager know you are the best fit for the job.

Close with a concise and promising paragraph

Ensure you end your cover letter in a polite and confident matter. Inform your hiring manager that you would love to meet them in person while you restate your interest in the job and the company. End the letter on a formal note. You can use “yours sincerely”; you could also use other ending statements like “Kind regards” or “With best regards”. These three are your best bets.

Before sending off your cover letter, ensure you proofread or review it. Ensure your cover letter is well formatted and neat typed. You can use this formatting while editing your cover letter.

  • Ensure it is between 200–350 words
  • It must be single-spaced
  • A4 page size
  • You should use the standard letter font Arial or Calibri.
  • Font size should be between 10.5 and 12 points

Your cover letter must be well formatted and readable for you to be acknowledge as a professional in your field. You only have a chance to write your cover letter before sending it, so ensure to write it and proofread it carefully. You can now send your cover letter to the organization.
