Have you ever heard the voices in your head talk to you? Some of these voices can be so negative that they would cripple out every element of motivation and strength in you.
They have you doubting your power, your ability and who you are. You then end up feeling like a fraud; you are scared other people will realize you are not all you claim to be. This feeling is an effect of the imposter syndrome called Self Doubt. If you have been feeling like this, you are not alone. Many people out there go through precisely the same struggles you go through. Therefore, this article will guide you on how to deal with Self Doubt.
Self-Doubt is one of the most excellent tools that can paralyze a creative man. It is a feeling of being inadequate for a specific role or when you feel you do not deserve a position, or anything given to you. Creativity comes from within. The main strength of being creative comes from believing in yourself and trusting your ability to create a masterpiece. High self-confidence, self-esteem, and self-appraisal are essential for a creative person.
Self-doubt can take away the creativity of a visionary. When a creative starts to doubt himself, he loses his ability to harness his creativity and produce results. He does not see potential in what he does at all.
I know this because I have personally experienced it. I had the worst case of imposter syndrome. I woke up one day and accounted all I could do to some hand of nature that was happy with me. I took up a new role at work, and the voices came reminding me I was not qualified to do it. I became so scared that I began to doubt myself and lost everything at that point.
My creativity, strength, and shine because I felt I was a fraud who could not do anything right. These voices can destroy your confidence and esteem if you do not take the right step to tackle them.
Below I will share how I tackled and defeated the imposter syndrome called Self Doubt.
How to Defeat Self-Doubt
Reminding yourself of who you are and what you can do
When you are drowning in self-doubt, that is the time to remind yourself of your strength and abilities. Remember the tasks you have completed in the past and your achievement. Remind yourself that you can do it because of your power and press forward with your task ahead. When I am ready to deliver at 100%, I have my strength; I am still me when I am down and need motivation.
Avoid comparison
Comparison steals your joy. There is this famous saying that comparison is the thief of joy. This saying is very true. One of the fastest ways to experience self-doubt is by comparing yourself with other people and what they have achieved or done. To defeat self-doubt, you must acknowledge that everyone’s journey is different, and life is all about every man to his race. You have to embrace your journey and celebrate your wins.
Take time to learn more and be better
A lot of time, self-doubt comes from knowing your abilities and weaknesses. Take time to learn and become better at the task you are given to do, this will build your self-confidence, and you will become bolder in the face of self-doubt.
Surround yourself with supportive people
People who love and believe in you will always root for you and encourage you. When you are in self-doubt, surround yourself with these people.
They will remind you of your strength, how talented you are and what you can achieve. They will fuel your belief in yourself and make your confidence strong again.
Talk to a Professional
Self-doubt can be crippling and depressing. It is essential to see a professional when trying to overcome self-doubt, especially if the feeling of self-doubt is stifling and makes it difficult for you to be productive in your everyday tasks.
Remember this always; you can do all you set your mind to do. You are the harshest critics of yourself. You need to believe in yourself even when you are at your lowest. You can do it, and you will do it. When you are on the low, believe in yourself. You will get it soon.
Know this truth; everyone is making it up as we go. This is the absolute truth. No one has life all figured out. How do you deal with personal insecurities and self-doubt?
