In a groundbreaking move that blends entertainment, technology, and youth empowerment, Safaricom’s Wai Ndai Challenge has transformed the lives of two Kenyans, John Maina (34) and Paul Njihia (32), who have each driven home brand-new Suzuki Altos as the first monthly winners of the online gaming competition.
The challenge, which has attracted over 200,000 participants since its launch, is a platform for young Kenyans to showcase their skills, have fun, and win life-changing rewards.
Speaking during the event, Chief Consumer Business Officer Safaricom, Fawzia Ali, said that through the ‘Wai Ndai’ Challenge, Safaricom aims to deliver an engaging gaming experience that resonates with it’s youthful customers.
“It’s about keeping them entertained while offering them opportunities to win exciting rewards,” she said adding that, the initiative is not just about prizes but also about creating a culture where young people can thrive.
By leveraging technology, Safaricom is tapping into the growing gaming industry, which has become a significant part of youth culture in Kenya and beyond.
Maina, a resident of Naivasha, Nakuru County, whose win couldn’t have come at a better time said that, his car will go a long way in helping with his movements and business, especially during these tough economic times.
Njihia who hails from Ruiru, Kiambu County, represents a growing demographic of young Kenyans who are turning their passion for gaming into tangible rewards.
He said, “I’ve always loved gaming, but I never imagined it could change my life like this.”
The Wai Ndai Challenge which runs until February 18, 2025, is part of Safaricom’s broader Hook strategy, aimed at empowering the youth through technology.
Under the Culture Hook, the initiative encourages young people to pursue their passions, such as gaming, while offering them opportunities to win exciting rewards.
As the Wai Ndai Challenge continues to gain momentum, it’s clear that Safaricom is not only revolutionizing the gaming landscape in Kenya but also creating opportunities for young people to turn their passions into prosperity.
For many, this is more than just a game: it’s a chance to drive their dreams forward, literally and figuratively.
Participants compete in puzzles, arcade games, and action games for daily cash prizes of KES 3,000, KES 2,000, and KES 1,000, as well as the monthly grand prize of a Suzuki Alto.
