Deep down we all want to be healthy and fit for as it is well known, it plays an important role in our lives. Most times, because of our work schedules and life getting in the way, we neglect our health. However, there are things that you can do each day that will help you become fit and healthy. Bottom line is remaining consistent.

Here are five tips that will help you stay healthy and fit.

Have a healthy sleep habit    

Most of us lack proper sleep yet getting enough of it boosts our health and fitness. Lack of sleep can affect ones physical and mental health severely, as well as mood, memory, concentration, motor skills, metabolism, immune system, stress hormones, and cardiovascular health. Anyone over the age of 18 should aim to get at least 7 hours of sleep daily, as sleeping allows the body to repair, heal and rejuvenate itself.

Do regular checkups

Going for a checkup regularly is not so common in Africans, as most of us are of the belief that we only need the doctor when we are sick. We need to change that notion, because getting checked out regularly can benefit you immensely, as this will enable the doctor to do early diagnosis and offer early treatment. Do make it a habit to get an annual physical check up to make sure everything is as it should be.

Make exercise a habit

Exercise is very vital for it helps one stay healthy and fit. It is advised to engage in physical activity like walking for 30 minutes daily.

Engaging in exercise has a lot of benefits. It will help you manage stress, combat depression, strengthen your heart and lungs, boost your immune system, improve your mood and so many other health benefits.

Eat healthy

You should feed on a diet that consists of fresh fruits, whole grains, vegetables, and lean protein such as fish, poultry and beans, to help you stay healthy and fit. Also, remember to eat in moderation. Try to avoid consuming junk foods on a regular basis, as they are not good for your health.

Drink water

Water plays a key role in helping the body stay healthy and fit, as it keeps the body hydrated and is a natural cleanser of the body organs and digestive system. Additionally, water aids in flushing toxins out of the body through urine and sweat. The recommended minimum amount of water for an adult is 8 ounce glasses of water a day. If you care so much for the taste of water, you can add slices of citrus fruits to sweeten it.
