Beyond Africities: KISUMU!!! A CITY TO BEHOLD

Kisumu is a beautiful city in Kenya, East Africa. This beautiful city will be hosting the 9th edition of the Africities summit. Africities is a Pan Africa conference held every three years, and the united cities and local governments of Africa govern it. This year’s edition of the Africities summit will be held in Kisumu. We will therefore be looking at the beauty of this great city.

The name Kisumu literally translates to the place of barter trade – sumo. The city is so beautiful that the residents often compare it to Europe. This is because of the residents’ high taste for a high-ended lifestyle and upper class. The Kisumu people are people of dignity.

The city is also known for its lakeside viewpoints at Hippo Point and Dunga Hills Camps. If you ever wish to enjoy the sunset view of the lake, then Kisumu is the place to enjoy that vacation. The city shelters herds of zebra and impalas. It has a home for wildlife like baboons and cheetah in the Kisumu Impala Shelter.

The people of Kisumu County are hospitable and easy to talk to. A large percentage of people living in Kisumu are trilingual, and so they can speak the English language fluently. This makes communication easier for tourists and allows them to buy necessities and move around without difficulties.

Kisumu County is an exciting place. The Central business district is busy, yet the city is so calming. The structures are vibrant and outstanding. The lakeside culture is a remarkable sight. In Kisumu, you will see men and women working together at the lakeside, in sync.

The Kisumu town clock

The town clock is a tall clock that stands in the middle of the road. When you go to Kisumu, take a few moments to look at the town clock and remember Kassim Lahka. The clock was built as a memorial for him.

The Kisumu Museum

The Kisumu museum is a very unique structure. Every visitor in Kisumu must pay a visit to the museum. A visit to the museum is the best way to be introduced to the cultures and values of the land. The museum carries the very element of the Kisumu people. A visit to the museum is definitely worth your time.

Kisumu Impala Sanctuary

The sanctuary, as the name implies, is home to some impalas and some reptiles, birds, and hippos. The impala sanctuary is one of the smallest animal shelters in Kenya, but it is a sanctuary worth visiting.

Hippo Point

The hippo point is the viewing area for Lake Victoria. Remember the sunset view of the lake mentioned earlier, hippo point is the perfect place to get that view, and if you are lucky, you may also see one of the hippos that pass by occasionally.

Kit Mikayi Kisumu

This is also known as the weeping rock. The name comes from the belief that Mikayi, which also translates to the first wife, went up the hill to the stones, then the husband took a second wife, and Mikayi, has been weeping since then. The rocks consist of a large rock and three small rocks on it.

There are many wonders of Kisumu, more than can be written in an article.
